Doctors of Tibetan Medicine
Laila Reiss and Joey Mella are both Graduates of Shang Shung Institute School of Tibetan Medicine USA, founded by Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche. They completed a traditional 4-year training program in Massachusetts, USA, as well as an internship in Tibet/China at Tso Ngon University of Tibetan Medicine and the Tibetan Medical Hospital of Qinghai, Amdo.
Among their teachers are Dr.Phuntsog Wangmo, Dr.Tenzin Dakpa, Dr.Namgyal Tsering (former personal physician for HH The Dalai Lama for over ten years and former Director and Principal of Men-Tse Khang Tibetan Medical College of Dharamsala), Dr.Kunchog Gyaltsen (Director of Kumbum Monastery Tibetan Medical Hospital), Dr.Yang Ga (of Tibet University Lhasa and Harvard Phd).
They both received the traditional oral transmission of the Four Medical Tantras by Tibet's legendary and most senior Doctor Aku Nyima and the Medicine Buddha Empowerment by Dzogchen Master Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche.
They are both students of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche and currently live with their three children in Maui, Hawaii, USA.
was born and raised in Germany. Half korean and from a family of yoga teachers, she grew up closely with asian and yogic philosophies and practices. Early on she was trained in the Energy Medicine of Pranic Healing by Master Choa Kok Sui directly. She then studied under Kundalini Yoga Master Yogi Bhajan, living in his ashram in New Mexico until his passing. Laila is a Yoga Alliance certified Kundalini and Pre-Natal Yoga Teacher since 2002.
Her special interest is in Women's Health, Yogic Health & Rejuvenation, and the External Therapy of Moxibustion, which she also studied with the korean Daoist Doctor Sung Baek.
Laila furthermore holds a Bachelor of Design Degree from London's Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and continues to share her passion for design and the cultivation of the mind through her meditation jewelry line UPALAMALA.COM.
Born in Chicago and raised in Nashville Tennessee, Joey is a Graduate of Hampshire College where he studied Neuroscience, Lucid Dreaming and Nutrition. He is the founder of 'Friends of Fermentation'. He is passionate about our daily Food as the primary form of Medicine.
